Long shorts for big kids K031
Our long shorts are a great length for active play and especially for traveling.
These shorts are fun to wear – they are longer than most other shorts in the dresser drawer, and a good bridge between seasons.
The long shorts have three pockets, elastic in the waist, and an optional drawstring.
This pattern is inspired by the length of pants that are variously called clam diggers, pedal pushers, and toreadors, and belong in every child's wardrobe.

If you don't own a serger, you can use a small zig-zag stitch in place of the serged seam.

Knit fabric. Medium weight jersey or lightweight french terry is recommende.Jersey for the pocket linings is better to reduce bulk
3/4 yard for sizes 6 to 14 in main fabric, 1/3 yard lining (if using different fabric)
Rib knit fabric for waistband 1/4 yard all sizes
1.25” (3.2cm) wide elastic for waist
