Never used a PDF (digital) sewing pattern?

If you’ve never purchased a digital sewing pattern it can be intimidating but trust me it’s SUPER EASY! Do these 4 steps once and you’ll never hesitate to buy another PDF pattern.

TEXT (2)

I’ll explain in detail here:

After finding the pattern you want, purchase it with Paypal or a credit card. (Or get one of these free.)

If it’s instant download, the pattern will be sent to your email from the website within a few minutes.  If it’s not instant, the shop owner will typically email it within 24 hours.

On your desktop

1. Download by clicking the link or pdf file. If you are previewing it in a browser you can choose to download or save it from there.

2. Go into your downloads to find the file.

3. Drag it from your downloads to your desktop.

4. Leave it on the desktop or create a folder to save it in.

On IOS

On an iPad or iPhone you can save by clicking the preview and choosing ‘open in iBooks’ and it will store there.  If you don’t have iBooks you can download it for free in the app store.

To open the pattern you will need a free PDF reader like Adobe Reader.

If you don’t have a PDF reader, get it here. www.get.adobe.com/reader

Click ‘Install now‘.

Find the adobe installer just downloaded and double click to continue the install.
Choose run if you get this prompt:

Continue through the steps, clicking next until you see it downloading.

When it’s done downloading click ‘FINISH‘. You should have the reader on your desktop now and will be able to open any PDF.

Open your PDF pattern to print.

To save paper, you can choose to print only the pattern pages and read from the instruction pages from your screen. In the example below I chose pages 6-11 because those are the pattern pages, and I selected ‘Actual size‘ so it doesn’t scale.

After printing, follow the instructions for putting the pattern together and start sewing!

These photos are specific to Brindille & Twig but will give you an example of putting a pattern together. You will print, cut the extra white off at the edges and overlap the boxes to tape for the full piece.

Have fun, I’ll talk to you soon!

UPDATE – I’VE STARTED ADDING LAYERS!! See details in this blog post.
